Alex Alben

Alex Alben is a privacy leader with over 20 years of experience in law, media, and technology. He co-founded GetSmart Cyber Defense, a software company that offers innovative solutions for privacy and security compliance, and teaches privacy and cybersecurity at UCLA School of Law. He also provides strategic and management consulting services for private and public sector clients, helping them navigate the complex and evolving landscape of data protection laws and regulations. As the first chief privacy officer for the State of Washington and for RealNetworks, Inc., Alex developed and implemented policies and best practices for data governance, consumer protection, and risk management. He also co-chaired the Autonomous Vehicle committee on system tech. and data security, and examined the impact of new technologies such as drones, biometrics, and data-sharing applications. He has authored several publications on privacy, media, and technology, and is a guest columnist for The Seattle Times. Alex is passionate about promoting a culture of privacy and security that empowers individuals and organizations to thrive in the digital age.
