They are looking for someone interested in keeping up with the fast-paced realm of space who can maintain The Verge’s industry-leading coverage. Whether reporting on distant galaxies, exploding rockets, or up-and-coming space startups, space stories are a core part of their coverage.

About the Job

What you'll do:

  • Write and publish at least one story a day, whether it’s a blog post, a longer report, or a feature

  • Come up with fresh, sharp angles on space news and keep the team aware of major developments that are relevant to The Verge’s audience

  • Report news out as necessary, on tight deadlines, which includes making calls, asking tough questions, and pursuing a story aggressively

  • Approach learning from your editors with openness and enthusiasm

Who you are:

  • You have a proven track record covering the science and business of space, particularly on news or breaking stories

  • You possess strong storytelling capabilities, and the ability to tell the difference between a story and a topic

  • You have the demonstrated ability to transform scientific studies and complex ideas into interesting and understandable stories, with an eye toward the audience’s interests and needs

  • You have an interest in our other coverage areas, and a willingness to find the science story in entertainment, transportation, or technology

Nice to have, but not required:

  • 3+ years reporting in the science space

  • Experience on camera
